ENGINEERING DESIGN

Mechanical, Electrical, Sustainable, and Control Engineering Design

Engineering design has been a passion of mine for a long time. Ever since of high school I've been building, tinkering, and designing. The following are multidisciplinary engineering projects that I have been majorly involved in. They range from simple week long projects to near market-ready products.

Engineering Design: What We Do
Dartmouth Energy Dashboard

DARTMOUTH ENERGY DASHBOARD

Spring 2020

I designed the web-app for an energy dashboard for Dartmouth College's campus. The goal is to create sustainable behavioral changes within the student body. The system collects data from the smart power meters located at each building and displays the information in a concise manner. The buildings are ranked creating a competition amongst students in dorms. The use of a mascot instills an emotional response and encourages the students further to be more aware of their energy footprint

VERTICAL TAKE-OFF VERTICAL LANDING (VTVL) MODEL ROCKET

Fall 2019 & Winter 2020

This was my senior design project done in collaboration with STEM Robotix (Hanover, NH). The objective was to design electrical and mechanical components to accomplish the goal of a model rocket Vertical Take-Off Vertical Landing (VTVL).  This system is safe and reliable. It is affordable and adaptable to the needs of multiple audiences, including hobbyists and student. It accomplishes everything through commercially available parts and simple 3-D components.

Proposed Dartmouth Tiny Classroom

SUSTAINABLE TINY HOUSE

Spring 2019

Submitted structural calculations and design documents for permitting of tiny classroom at Dartmouth Organic Farm. Focused on designing the pile-ons and supports for the lifted foundation of the building.

System Control Circuit

INVERTED PENDULUM CAR - SYSTEMS CONTROL

Fall 2018

Created a mathematical model to represent the physical system of an inverted pendulum car. Analyzed open loop and closed loop stability using block diagrams, root locus, bode, and Nyquist plots. Designed the PD (Proportional Derivative) control using sisotools and PID Tuners. Achieved relatively stable outcomes, able to compensate for a disturbance.

Structural Plywood Bridge

THE LITTLE BRIDGE THAT WOOD

Summer 2018

Led group in order to design a bridge that effectively used a limited amount of material, while also beating criterion (Factor of Safety, Displacement Limits, etc.) almost threefold. Used SolidWorks to model and simulate the final design. Gain important management and leadership skills, while furthering machine shop skills, with the laser cutter

Game Interface

SIMON SAYS - VHDL

Summer 2018

Culminating experience to digital electronics course. Created an efficient and accurate version of the popular 90s game of Simon using Basys3 FPGA's. Led group meetings and coordinated between both hardware and software groups, and created the overall design of implementation using top-level design and block diagrams.

WINTER WINDOW SHIELD - PRODUCT DESIGN

Winter 2018

Project was in conjunction with a local non-profit (COVER Home Repair) to provide an affordable and effective method of insulating mobile homes. Developed the hardware to test prototypes against factors of heat loss, such has convection, radiation, and conduction. Acted as a liaison between COVER and group in order to attain feedback from mobile homeowners in order to ensure an aesthetically pleasing product. Project developed solution that would reduce heating cost by half.

ANIMATRONIC TURTLE PROJECT

2015 - 2016

Designed an animatronic turtle for the Florida TSA competition, achieving 3rd place. Utilized ultrasonic sensors and microcontrollers to actuate specific actions.

HONDA DIRT BIKE BUILD

Summer 2015

Rebuilt a 1985 Honda CB500 during my internship at Vertex Automotive. Utilized shop equipment to design and build custom mounting hardware. Rewired and simplified the engine ignition system.
